Friday the 13th. For many, it’s a day of superstition and bad luck. For me, it’s a day of strength, the strength of Mary Magdalene, the 13th apostle. It reminds me that truth is subjective. What one person sees as misfortune, another might find hope and inspiration in. The phrase that always resonates with me is: “Don’t build a higher fence, build a longer table.” In a world where we often isolate ourselves, I believe there’s another way: connection. Even something as simple as inviting people to your table can make a difference.
Angels may not walk this earthly world, but their energy can certainly influence it. Through love and connection, we can let that angelic energy flow through us. You don’t need wings to be an angel in someone’s life. How can you do that? By building a table, however small or simple, and inviting others to join. Baking pancakes for someone you barely know. Offering a smile, lending an ear. These are the moments where angelic energy comes to life here on earth.
What wealth means differs from person to person and culture to culture. In Portugal, for instance, people believe you should never place your handbag on the ground, or your money will “run away.” In China, Feng Shui warns that leaving the toilet lid open will cause your wealth to drain away. But for me, wealth lies in something else: togetherness. A table filled with pancakes, the smell of butter and sugar, and the warmth of friends and family. That’s wealth that doesn’t cost a thing but creates an abundance of love and connection.
My parents taught me that you don’t need much to make a difference. Every year, we celebrated Candlemas, a day rooted in the saying: “There’s no woman so poor that she can’t warm her pan.” With just flour, milk, eggs, and butter, you can feed a whole group. That’s wealth. A kind of wealth you share—not just with those close to you, but with those who might need a little light in their life.
To start the new year, I’ve invited all my friends to join me. We’ll begin 2025 with something simple: waffles and pancakes. Not because it’s grand or special, but because it’s honest and real. And because it reminds me of the power of angelic energy: an invisible presence that brings people together. Why? Because I believe that with love and connection, we can start fresh. After a difficult 2024, full of war and sorrow, we can choose a different path. A path where we tear down walls and build longer tables.
I wish you long tables, low walls, abundance in all your heart desires, and love that stretches into even the smallest gestures in 2025.
